- I am currently a resident assistant and I am pretty creative in coming up with program ideas and passionate about making sure my residents enjoy the socials I host. (Clarification: Programs are events that resident assistants are required to host about once a month. They can be academic, educational in terms of health or campus resources, or just socially fun events. We are responsible for planning, shopping, and implementing these programs and then are required to submit an activity assessment that describes the success of the program, how much was spent, and what resources were used.) I have had plenty of experience planning programs, but have also experienced being envious of others programs upon completion because of how well they turned out. I would love to have access to their program plan, where they bought their supplies, and other tips for the programs. I am applying to be a graduate hall director, a supervisor to the RAs, so I would encourage my RAs to use this.
- My product is another section to the mandatory activity assessments RAs complete, which allows RAs to categorize their program quickly by type, time requirement, cost, whether food is provided, links to outside resources or web pages with activity descriptions, and file upload options. (Clarification: This is different than what we are currently required to do, because it will be more conducive to allow RAs to search this system to find a creative program that meets their and their residents needs. It would be under the same website that we use to submit activity assessments so that RAs already are used to using this source, located in a link next to the normal activity assessment.)
- I'm offering this to the Department of Housing and Residence Education at UF, specifically for resident assistants that are responsible for planning programs for their residents.
- Making their job easier. This system would essentially provide an easy way to select a program that meets resident wants and any requirements of the RA along with easy access to support materials and reduce the preparation time.
- I have first hand experience of having difficulties in coming up with program ideas. Also I plan to continue with the Department of Housing for the next two years, either continuing as an RA or being a Graduate Hall Director, the supervisor of the RAs, so I will either be continually using this program and able to provide updates or as a supervisor encourage my RAs to use the program and get feedback from them and the entire area of RAs.
Honestly I didn't get much feedback, and when I did it was pretty similar to feedback others had already provided. But if I had to pick five main points:
- I tried to explain exactly what a program was. I realize if you haven't lived on campus and been apart of these programs, you might not know what I'm talking about. For all of my updates I provided them in parenthesis.
- Also, I explained the concept of an activity assessment.
- I explained what format my program would be in--it would be a link located on the same website that we do our activity assessments.
- I also kept my ideas well ordered and in a logical flow.
- I also explained more of my core competencies.
I think your overall ideas and concept on this will help make the lives of RAs a lot easier. There are a lot of responsibilities in being an RA, so anything that helps lighten the load and make work more efficient is always a good thing. I like that with the webpage RAs can better schedule their time, resources and overall planning, which in return can lead to more fun and enjoyable events for both RAs and students. Maybe for my own service I should add a webpage to keep better track of which student rents which charger and so on. I think you did a good job also on clarifying your position on your idea. Emily,
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great foundation for a business idea and it seems you have put a lot of work into making it as clear and concise as possible. I, for example, have never lived on campus but from your revisions and clarifications, I can tell exactly what your ideas and goals are.
