- I definitely still think I am on the right track. Based on their answers, I have more specific things to add to the program.
- I did talk to the right customers last time--I interviewed RAs for whom I want to create this program. This time I was running out of time to complete the assignment, so I went to an SAB meeting of RAs from all around campus, most of whom I didn't know, and was able to find five people that would talk with me, two refused. But again, because I was an RA and all of my interviewees were RAs, they were pretty helpful.
- I took advice from last weeks peer reviews and slightly adjusted some of the questions. They were:
- How do you typically come up with program ideas?
- Can you explain the decision factors that go into selecting the one you pick?
- Typically what types of programs do you host?
- Are there additional resources that would be helpful in planning programs?
- Have you had any great program ideas that you weren't able to do?
- For your residents, what are the best types of programs you can host?
- My interviews are below.
- I still think my opportunity is a very good idea. The only issue, that I've personally found with it, is that I don't think it would actually be something the department of housing would pay me for, but since I am an employee and could create it, I think they would use it. I did discover another topic that needs to be built into the system: time of the program.
- I would say to try to identify exactly who your customers are and interview them; it's a waste of time to interview people who won't want your product. Also, I would say be sure to prep for the interviews and, if you can, do them without other distractions. Be comfortable asking the questions, maybe practice before. And lastly, pay attention to their answers so you can either ask followups or skip questions they basically already answered, plus it is polite since they are giving you some of their time.

ReplyDeleteHey Emily,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you were open enough to take some advice from other people and tweak your questions. Having the ability to do this will help you in your future plans. Keep working towards your idea! I personally think it is a very creative idea and I could see it being successful one day. I would like to wish you good luck on your path to success.
I enjoyed your interviews but I also think that you should keep working at this. I think there is something that could develop into a successful program. We can all benefit from this but especially the RA's you interviewed. Keep working at this and your blog!

ReplyDeleteHello Emily,
I enjoyed your post, but will admit that I have very limited experience with the specific problem that you are trying to solve. I understand that Resident Assistants could benefit from a centralized and categorized database, which would allow them access to effective and relevant event solutions, and it appears that your colleagues support your initiative. If I can add a suggestion, may I recommend perhaps including a section that includes relevant vendor information, if the event requires you to purchase goods or services to host it? This may help RAs execute event plans more efficiently, and may give them a better idea of the associated expenses with doing so.
I linked my blog below, if you would like to take a look at it!

Hey Emily,
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job concentrating on your potential customers. I also agree with your tips and will try to incorporate them in the third interview assignment. You may face some difficulties during the creation of your product, but keep at it! Even though funding is an important aspect make sure that it doesn’t stop you from furthering your idea.
If you have the time you should check out my Interview No.2:

Hi Emily,
ReplyDeleteI loved how thorough your questions were. They were well thought out and definitely helped to gain more information on your idea. I think it is fine that you may not be paid for this program, not every great idea results in lots of money! This blog post was very enjoyable to read and I wish you luck with your idea in the future. Check out my blog here: http://jakeryanentrepreneur.blogspot.com/2016/02/interviewing-customers-no-2.html
I think you did a great job with your interviews. I think your questions were very insightful and developed well to give you the best responses from the interviewees. I don't think you should worry about the money aspect of this idea because I think it could be really helpful and useful as someone who struggles with being crafty and sometimes needing a little help with ideas.
ReplyDeleteEmily,
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with the interviews and I can tell you put in a lot of time and work for this idea. The questions you asked were very thorough and required answers that can help you implement your idea. Your tips were very helpful too especially your third one, because a lot of times, we will ask questions and not pa attention to the answer because we are thinking about the next question but if you actually stay focused on the question at hand you can get a lot more from the interview. I enjoyed your blog and how well it was put together.
